    3. The best way I can think of to narrow your search is to see if the family is in the Philadelphia city directories at the time of the birth. This isn't foolproof, for I have ancestors who I know were in Philadelphia but at times didn't make it into the directory, but it's still a great resource. If you locate them in Philly during the birth years, the next thing to check would be the birth index for those years. Have you searched the Philly records online yet? There are several sites with transcribed records online. Also, if you've not yet done so, a search on www.familysearch.org might be helpful. One other way to go about this is to obtain the death record of William HUGHES if you know that date and place, for it might provide birth details. Cemetery records are also an option if you know where he was buried. I can't be sure that the birth took place in Philadelphia, but it was certainly in Pennsylvania. ... Any connections or pointers/tips to his birth, baptism or other evidence of the family being in a particular part of PA would be gratefully recieved. --------------------------------- Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection.
