    3. Charles D. CROUT was b. c1824 in Germantown and died 1884 in Philadelphia, buried in West Laurel Hill. Wife was Sarah (nee unknown), possibly a first wife named Mary. I cannot locate Charles in the 1850 census. In 1860 through 1880, he is residing in Philadelphia; in 1870 his last name is Krout in one of the enumerations and I can't find the other one (I think I have just the 2nd enum). I do wonder if I have the correct Charles in 1860, since he is a shoemaker in 1860 and a policeman in 1862--seems a big change to me. The reason I think he possibly had a 1st wife (though it just didn't fit with the 1860 census) is that there is a Mary & Charles CROUT who had a daughter Emma on 31 Mar 1862, and then Charles & Sarah had a son Joseph B on 31 May 1863. Charles for each birth is a policeman; in 1862 in Ward 2 and in 1863 in Ward 1. --------------------------------- TV dinner still cooling? Check out "Tonight's Picks" on Yahoo! TV.
