Though required by law, many clerics did not report marriages even into the 20th century. I found several women in my extended family who were either pregnant when they married or had at least one child before marrying. Thus, the wedding could have been religious and not reported, after the child was born, in another county, or may not have happened at all. Good luck in your search. Here's what I've got, and I do believe it is the Wm I seek: Wm B CROUT, age 27 (could be 29), born in Phila, married Ida KRECKEBAUM, age 21, born in Phila. Married in a Methodist church on Richmond St. He was a conductor living on Richmond St; she was living on Richmond St. The 1860 census shows Wm residing w/the Kreckerbaum's, including Ida. The 1870 census shows Wm living with his brother John J CROUT and no wife/no Ida. What happened to this marriage? To Ida? Wm B has a child with Rebecca in 1872, so I was hoping to find a marriage between 1870 & 1872 but so far no luck with that. --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Thanks Merle; the Wm Crout - Rebecca ? marriage may be left unfound unless I learn her maiden name and can search by it (I've been waiting for a month now for her death cert to arrive which should help with this). New info: I've located Ida in 1870 with her mother: 18th Ward, Phila: KRICKEBAUM, Elizabeth, 51, Ret Liquor Dealer, 14,000/700, b. Saxony , Ida, 24, at home, b. PA , Emma, 21, at home, b. PA , Lena, 17, at home, b. PA , Mary, 15, b. PA Living w/them: Henry Haas (41, b. Saxony), Adolph Haas (17, b. PA), John Krause (34, b. PA), John Defrene (40, b. France), and Phoebe Ba[den] Baker (b. Feb in PA). In 1880, I don't find Ida, but her mother (E. Krickebuam, 63), sisters Emma (30, single) and Lena (26, divorced), and Elizabeth's granddaughter Elizabeth Smith (8) are still in Phila. I wonder--could Wm & Ida have divorced between 1860 & 1870? organizr01@aol.com wrote: Thus, the wedding could have been religious and not reported, after the child was born, in another county, or may not have happened at all. >shortened< -----Original Message----- From: larzemail@yahoo.com Today I located a marriage for Wm B CROUT at PCA: Wm B CROUT, age 27 (could be 29), born in Phila, married Ida KRECKEBAUM, age 21, born in Phila. ...
