    3. PA death records are at the PA Dept of Vital Records in Newcastle, PA. There is a Web page with directions for obtaining death certificates. 3. I appreciate the response Gene. However, my questions below were in regard to the O.E.S. As for your suggestion to contact he PA Vitals Records office, getting death certificates from that office isn't as simple as just giving then a name, spouse's name and parents names. They require a death date (which I don't have for Mary and Otto), as I discovered in researching other relatives. Or they will research segments of time for a significant fee. Since Mary and Otto could have died over a 40+ year span, that research for 2 people could get expensive. For Mary and Otto, I have no idea when they died, so I'm trying to get some clues from church records (maybe the Old Zion Luthern Church in Philadelphia), obits or any other organizations that may have belonged to. So far, efforts to find obits for Mary and Otto have failed. I'm still trying to confirm the church they may have attended, for another good source of info. Since I'm grasping at straws to find a lead on this couple, and as indicated in my previous email, I'm also looking at this O.E.S that Otto's parents belonged to. Hence my questions in my previous emal. Hopefully someone on this list may have had some experience with O.E.S. records, and maybe provide some insight. I have nothing to lose by asking. 3. Rich, I know nothing about the OES, but I have been successful in learning death dates for those family members who died between the 1930 census and the mid-1970s when there are more listed in the Social Security Death Index. To do so, I've used the most recent generation (my grandparents are living, so in my case, my g-grandparents) and located the cemetery. I also have information from the late 1800s/early 1900s for deaths of the siblings of those that fall into that harder-to-research category. Going this route, I've discovered the burial places along w/date of death or burial for an entire generation in each of several lines. If you haven't traced siblings, I'd highly recommend it. I know you are interested in the OES records, but I can almost sense your struggle with this timeframe and know it's tough. ColumbusGuy <plugnplaycmh@yahoo.com> wrote: I appreciate the response Gene. 3. Hi, Thanks for the insightful suggestion. My situation is a little different and compounded in that I don't know the descendants of the people I'm looking for. They are actually a different branch of my family (so are very distant relatives). Therefore, I have to do a top-down search (starting with the ancestors and work my way to the descendants). It certainly is difficult when I know very little about the family. If I want to know something, I have to discover it. Oh yeah, I have already searched the SSI, and these people were not listed. I'm surprised Otto (or Mary) were not listed, which makes me think they may not have lived to old age. As for burial info and cemeteries, I actually called just about every (non-denomination) cemetery in the Philadelphia and haven't found their burial info (although some charge to give out the info, so I didn't get answers from them all). The good news is that this past week, I did find the death notice for Dorothy, which stated she was buried at the Lawnview cemetery. It also stated her membership in the OES. So, I thought I would pursue both the cemetery to see if Otto and Mary are also buried there, as well as pursue OES records. Hence my email requesting info about the OES. Since some resources take months to get replies or to find useful info, I decided to search them in parallel. Thanks for the suggestion, Rich larzemail <larzemail@yahoo.com> wrote: Rich, I know nothing about the OES, but I have been successful in learning death dates for those family members who died between the 1930 census and the mid-1970s when there are more listed in the Social Security Death Index.
