Article 4 Feb 1884 Philadelphia Inquirer February 4, 1884 page 2 WORK OF THE FLAMES Several Fires Which Took Place in This City Yesterday As Frank Colsher, a lamplighter, was passing Nineteenth street and South College avenue with a can of gasoline in a push cart, shortly before noon yesterday, the cart was upset and a portion of the gasoline spilled on the street. A boy who was standing near threw a lighted match into the fluid, when it took fire and communicated with that remaining in the can, causing an explosion. The burning fluid ran down the gutter into the sewer, but fortunately did not come in contact with any inflammable material except the push cart. As a precautionary measure, Engine No. 27 was summoned, but its services were not required. Colsher was slightly burned in an endeavor to save his cart.
