Perhaps the Thomas Murray in the 1850 census was born in the summer of 1844, or in September 1844 before Hanson's death. The census records I've looked at were usually taken sometime in the spring. A person who was born in the summer of 1844 wouldn't have celebrated his 6th birthday yet, when the 1850 census was taken.
