Listers, JOSEPH YOUNG, NEWSPAPER EDITOR (der Morgernstern) married ELIZABETH SWARTLEY 09/01/1836 both of Doylestown, PA. married in Behtlehem, PA I have very little on Joseph's parents, Just names - JOHN YOUNG & ELIZABETH (?). Joseph was said to have been born in Lehigh County (or Northumberland) in 1815. Anybody have anything on these YOUNGS ?? DENNIS
Hi, Dennis -- I found two references to a Joseph Young that seem to be in the right time frame. Both references are from W.W.H. Davis' History of Bucks County, and are as follows: Page 331, which deals with people involved in the newspaper business, which reads: "'Der Morgenstern' was established in August, 1836, by Joseph Young as 'Der Bauer' (The Farmer), the present name being adopted in 1841. Moritz Loeb became interested in the paper in 1848, and purchased Young's interest in 1851." Page 553 details membership of "Doylestown Encampment, No. 35, I.O.O.F." and lists a Joseph Young as a participant as of June 22, 1846. There were also a couple of references to an Elizabeth "Swortley," but these women were listed as married to others. Hope this helps!
