Several years ago one of my cousins had an extraordinary bit of luck and discovered the name of the orphanage his gm came from - she had gone to Oklahoma on an orphan train. The orphanage had the original records including parent's names and was not at all cooperative. He hired an attorney who got a local judge to ordered the records to be released for 'family medical history purposes'.
