    3. Patti, Neither an 1892 nor a 1903 Philadelphia marriage license will give you parents' names, unless one or both parties were minors and needed to provide a parent/guardian consent form. (Phila. licenses don't give parental information until c. 1913). The license may, however, have been annotated to specify the church at which the marriage took place (otherwise, it only tells you the officiant's name and address and you have to figure out the church on your own). Some (not many) church records might give you information on the parents -- but I see this mostly in German-speaking Lutheran parishes, so this may not apply to your situation. The marriage certs will, however, give you the bride's and groom's respective addresses, occupations, ages/DOBs, and POBs, which you can use to (maybe) find them in City Directories (maybe you'll find the names of family they're living with) and in birth (and/or baptism) records, which should (finally) get you the parents' names (though not necessarily the mother's maiden name). The marriage certs will, of course, give you the date of the application (possibly the same as the date of marriage) and the date of marriage, so at least you can have that piece of the puzzle answered relatively easily, once you find the license. There is a marriage license index for Phila. that covers 1885-1916, so both your Jacob's marriage should be in it. The index will give you the year and certificate number; you (or a volunteer) will have to look at the actual cert. in order to find out the full details. Both the index and the certs are available on microfilm at the City Archives and through the LDS. Hope that helps. Claire K. 3. Patti and all, If the officiant is a Catholic priest PAHRC will know the church where the marriage took place. German-speaking Catholic parishes will sometimes have the names of the parents as well as the town in Germany if you are lucky!
