Hi everyone, In junior and senior high (Shaw/Bartram), I used to ride along Cobbs Creek paths from a stable that was off the left (south?) side of Marshall Road. Strickly speaking that is Upper Darby (I think). I vaguely remember that if you didn't have an in with the owner (like you proved to him you could ride), you had to ride on this gigantic mud flat that was down from but attached to his property. I think it's been built on now by a shopping center up there. The name Jimmy's and Weaver's have been bandied about, but I'm not sure if I'm mixing my stables. There was also a VERY old stable on the left (south?) side of Baltimore Ave, also just past Cobbs Creek Pkwy. I was in grade school in Illman Carter, attached to the U of Penn, at the time and my dad took the whole 3rd grade class for an outing there once. It had to be before I was in 5th grade, so something like early/mid 1950's. They just had a large field where I rode a pony around... I don't think you could access the trails on Cobbs Creek, or at least at my tender age, the issue didn't come up. I gave my mother heart failure anyway by taking the pony over a tiny little jump. FYI Prices for an hour's riding in the first stable was, I believe $1.50. The number $5.00/hr sticks in my mind too, but that may have been by the time I switched to Pennypack stables, [grumpu] Al's riding stables in the northeast. I rode every Saturday. Great horses. Also flashers in Pennypack park. Was very glad I was riding an ex race horse at the time<g>. Thanks for any suggestions. I've been curious what these stables were names for years. One moved to the western suburbs at some time... possibly Media, but am not sure. Answer off list since I doubt this has any general interest. jo -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
