Can anyone tell me anything about a Mt Vernon Cemetery? At HSP I found a book dated 1886 that lists lot owners there. The office was located at 137 S. Fifth St. One of of the lot owners is Mary (Gominger) Carr, who was a sister of my 2nd great grandfather James Gominger. Up to this time most family had been buried at Odd Fellows, including Mary's father Joseph Gominger. In 1880, the obituary for her mother says buried at Mt Vernon. After that, all the family obituaries including those for Mary and her husband, both of whom died in 1892, say "Interment private" with no cemetery listed.. Is there a list anywhere of the burials at Mt Vernon? Is the cemtery still there? And why, if there was a funeral announced, would all the burials be 'private'? The Gominger family were German Lutherans, but by this time many were Methodists. Thanx Nancy
