The proper way is to spell it out the first time and then you can abbreviate it later in your email. 10th Grade Jack in sunny Florida Please don't send in a reply to this email . ---- Jack- It comes with the territory when you post a message to a list, that you have to expect other list members and/or the admin may reply to what you have posted. Abbreviations have been with us on the Philly lists for many years and GSP and HSP (and others) have been explained numerous times over the years. So what may be new to you is "old hat" to most list members. If you go to the archives search engine: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search ...and click the advanced tab, and then search for the PHILLY-ROOTS list and gsp OR hsp as your search terms, you get 599 hits and the second hit on the list explains the meaning of both GSP and HSP as early as 1997: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/philly-roots/1997-09/0873767736 That said, I'm not big fan of acronyms. It is usually better to spell out exactly what you mean -- but, in this case, these accronyms GSP and HSP have been with us on this list for at least 10 years, maybe longer.
