I just received 2 death certs for Philly ancestors, and neither one had a mother's maiden name. Instead, there was a question mark. One of them, I have already learned the mother's name, but the other, I was hoping this would be the key to going back one more generation. Her marriage record has not been found, her parents' names are unknown, and her death record & obit provide no clues for parents other than they were each born in Phila. She did receive a pension for her husband's Civil War service, and I'm ordering that today (was holding off due to expense). Is there any other record to use to learn who her parents are? Her children didn't know because they filled out her death record with the question marks, and their births were at a time when maiden names weren't provided. --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Hi. If you know where she was born, or date, or type of church she was a member of, you could find a baptism record. Worth a try. Good Hunting.
