My mother was born in 1931 at 2nd & Girard. She told me when she was a kid they use to shop at the the market on 2nd Street, so it must have still been open in the 1930's. Like Tom said, it ran on 2nd Street from Poplar down to Fairmount and the street is still extra wide today.
