Joan, I sent for four birth certificates from 1871 - 1892 for my great-grandmother and some of her children. They were all born in Philadelphia and all born at home. I sent my request to the City Archives. I received all four birth certificates within a short time, probably less than a month. I sent for them in July 2008. The four certificates cost me total $36. You can call them to find out what they are charging now. http://www.phila.gov/phils/Docs/Inventor/genealgy.htm Alexa --- On Tue, 5/19/09 I would like to send for 3 birth certificates, one from 1886, one from 1890 and one from 1897. Would these be available from the city archives on Market Street, and is the fee $10.00 per certificate? Thank you for your help. Joan

Sorry for the long delay in answering. The certificates gave name of child, name of parents (not mom's maiden name), place of birth (usually a home address), name of person who delivered (doctor or midwife), date of birth, plus the date certificate was signed and by whom. I was pleasantly surprised at the info given, especially when it gave the child's complete name including middle name/s.
