Francis Daniel Pastorius, 1920-1962: Francis Daniel Pastorius, 5th, was a direct descendant of Franz Daniel Pastorius, the Founder of Germantown, Philadelphia, PA., who came from Germany in 1683. He was a lawyer and had offices in Suburban Station, Philadelphia. He is best known in Philadelphia for saving Admiral Dewey’s flagship, “Olympia” from the scrapheap. He was appointed treasurer of the City of Philadelphia in 1952. Mr. Pastorius was a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II and was a graduate of the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and Harvard University. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1948. He was a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Carl Schurz Memorial Foundation and the German Society of Philadelphia and president of the Young Republican Club. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chestnut Hill. Funeral services were at St. Paul’s. He is buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery and is survived by his mother Mrs. H. Clay Pastorius..
