In trying to find an ancestor of our family, it took me to St Stephens Church that is located on 10th Street in Philadelphia. When I got there I noticed that no visible cemetery was in site. Although my research said she is buried there. So I entered the church and spoke with a minister who was present at the time. I asked if he knew of any burials that were located here at the church. He took me to a hallway inside the church and I looked down and there I was standing on my ancestors plague. The reason for me putting this on the list is that there is a big plaque on the wall that states the following. Beneath the church to the left are the burial vaults and graves of the following. Mary A Watson 1787 Sarah Shippen Watson 1828 Robert E Griffith 1833 James Brown 1838 Levi Ellmaker 1835 Lewis Duval --- John Powell 1845 Hosea J levis 1848 William Cragg 1857 Beneath the vestry to the right are the following John B Newman 1833 George Blight 1834 Thomas Rockhill ---- On the plaque on the floor are the following Tacy Lenox died 1854 Sarah Lukens Keene dau. of Major Laurence Keene and grand daughter of John Lukens surveyor general of Pennsylvania Died May 1866 Miss Mary Prowell March 2, 1855 Henry Edgar Keene born July 1 1817 and Died June 24, 1875. I posted this because if might be of some help to those looking for decendants and who would think they are buried beneath the church floor. It was my understanding that the minister said an addition to the church years ago was built over these gravesights. Darlene Prowell
