I found an obit for my ancestor, Thomas Hutton in 1854, that give his residence as Bayard Street above 7th, but I cannot find that on current maps. The only Bayard St I find is in Wyndmoor. Does anyone know where Bayard Street above 7th was in 1854? Thanks, Amy Kirkpatrick
>From the Philadelphia Street Name Changes, revised edition dated, 2001, there were two Bayard Streets: one located at Vernon Road to Gorgas Street. In 1926 the name was changed from Bayard to Cornelius Street. The other Bayard Street was located 7th to 8th Street, South of Wharton Street. In 1897 the name was changed from Bayard Street to Earp Street. So in 1854 Bayard Street was the name of the street that we call Earp Street now. I hope this gives you some help in locating the area in which your relative lived. Susan, Thanks! I did find Earp Street and I am on a genealogy roll today! The street name helped me pin down quite a few new family members in my Griner/Greiner line!
