No I did not notice them at all, I was so excited when the minister took us to the buried area, that I did not even think of that. Do you know who might be on any of the plaques? Our ancestor, Mary Prowell, it has been said that she donated money to the church before she died in 1855. She never married and had inherited money from her uncle Major Joseph Prowell who was a decorated hero in the Rev. War and is buried at Old Pine Cemetery in Philadelphia. The DAR has a plaque at his gravesite. There is a lot of paper trails on Major Prowell of Philadelphia but I am always on the lookout for more. As after the war he became a sea merchant and lived in Beribce Guyana South America before coming back to Philadelphia where he died in 1804. A newspaper article stated that he was buried with military honors at Old Pine Cemetery. I love the history and just love visiting all the Philadelphia areas that our ancestors were once located. Mary Prowell's grandfather was married at Old Swede's Church, Thomas Prowell to widow Rachael Griffith. Would love to find out more about them. They once lived in Vincent Township. And Thomas's father, James Prowell was an immigrant who lived in Chester County. History is interesting and makes you want for more. Love It. Each has a plaque with the donor's name and "In Memory of" - another source of somebody's family history. When I got there I noticed that no visible cemetery was in site. Although my research said she is buried there. So I entered the church and spoke with a minister who was present at the time. I asked if he knew of any burials that were located here at the church. He took me to a hallway inside the church and I looked down and there I was standing on my ancestors plague. The reason for me putting this on the list is that there is a big plaque on the wall that states the following. Beneath the church to the left are the burial vaults and graves of the following. ********* Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PHILLY-ROOTS ********* ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PHILLY-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
