The Public Ledger index for 1844-1851 marriages and deaths lists: JOSEPH MOUNT, 9-4-1846. Do not know if it is a death or marriage, but can’t seem to find it. Would anyone care to give it a try. The page is not the best of being readable. Thank you, Jane
It appears that he was involved in an altercation that resulted in the death of a Mr. Lutz, this happened in NJ. Good morning Sandy, I have a cup that goes with your pitcher. Red glass on top and clear cut glass on the bottom. Mine is inscribed "Mother" and "Atlantic City 1905". My grandparents lived on E. York Street at that time. My grandfather was from Scotland. My grandmother died before I was born and this cup I used to drink my milk when I was a small child and I talk my daughter to drink from it when she was a baby. Now it will be my great grandchild's cup when he/she is born in a few months. These items passed down from earlier generations are priceless. I have several from gr gr grandparents in another line and place. Enjoy your pitcher and good luck with your further search. Janet In a message dated 12/2/2011 6:50:26 P.M. I am not interested in William or Bella's descendants. I have all I need on them. Her father-in-law was Oliver Wright, 1838 - 1917. I am not interested in Oliver's descendants. I have all I need on them. He was a drayman from Northern Ireland. He arrived in Philly from Londonderry on the Ship Harvest, alone. He lived on Ball St and Fletcher St, Philly. His mother may have been Lucy and his father may have been William Henry Wright. I can find no proof. Lucy divorced Wm Henry and went on to marry Robert McKay although there was a huge difference in their ages. I am not interested in the McKays if she is not his mother. I am beginning to think that James Wright may possibly be Oliver's father or uncle. They lived in the same area and shared the same occupation. By the Irish naming methods he may possible be Oliver's father. This man is my brick wall. Remember, I am not interested in Oliver's descendants. If this works, I have other items which were inherited when one of my grandmother's passed in 1972. Sandy

Thanks, Jo-Ann, it does. (Vince was helping me). It's pretty clear that there were two Catherine (McGarvey) McGees living in the area, and this is not the clue I've been looking for to break down my McGarvey brick wall. Darn! Vince, Thanks! It's looking likely that there were two Catherine (McGarvey) McGees living in St. Anthony's who had brothers named James. Whodathunkit? This is a final nail in the coffin (if you'll pardon the expression as it relates to a death notice) of my theory that I had found the right Catherine McGee - James McGarvey siblings. Is anyone researching John McGARVEY (b. c. 1870 Ireland) who married 1901 Catherine FRIEL (b. c. 1871 Ireland)? They had children John J. (b. 10 August 1902) and Michael (b. c. 1905). The family lived at 2519 Webster St. in 1902, 2708 Oakford St. in 1910, and maybe at 2455 Waterloo St. in 1920; I haven't identified them in 1930. In 1952, son John J. McGarvey has a restaurant at 58th and Woodland Ave. and was elected ward leader for the 51st ward; in 1955, he is living at 2113 S. 57th St. and is married with three children (no names known, though I have leads to follow up on). He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Donegal Society. He resigned as ward leader in 1957, and I haven't found him after that. Brother Michael McGarvey is active in local politics as of 1952, but I haven't found anything more about him. I'm trying to determine if father John McGARVEY is the same John who is a brother to my Bridget (McGarvey) Royle and Catherine (McGarvey) McGee, and, if so, to trace the family back to Ireland. Here's hoping someone out there knows this family and has info that helps me determine if it's a branch of mine! Claire K
Is anyone searching James McGARVEY (b. July 1869? Ireland) who married 12 January 1898 at St. Ann's, Bridget McBRIDE (b. 1870? Ireland)? They had sons John (b. Dec. 1898) and Hugh (b. c. 1901); the family lived at 2635 Edgemont St. in the 1910 and 1930 censuses. (I haven't found them or the house in the 1920 census). Mother Bridget died in 1916 and was buried at New Cathedral, father James may have died in 1917 and been buried at Holy Cross. I'm trying to determine if this James is the James living with my Catherine (McGarvey) McGee and John McGarvey (siblings to my Bridget (McGarvey) Royle) in the 1895 Phila. City Directory and, if so, if he's another sibling. Ultimately, I'm trying to identify the family origins in Donegal. Thanks for any help! Here's hoping there's someone out there interested in these McGarveys from St. Ann's parish. Claire K
Can someone who has access to the 1917 or 1918 Phila. City Directory tell me if there are any McGees listed at 1133 S. 24th St.? I have a 1917 death notice that says James McGarvey was buried from his sister's, Catherine (McGarvey) McGee's, house at this address. If he's the James I'm looking for, his sister Catherine (McGarvey) McGee is in the 1918 PCD at 2544 Webster St., so I'm trying to figure out the other address. Thanks for any help. Claire K
Hi Sarah, Many thanks for your response. I'm an Englishman married to a Scots girl so my research alternates between the two sets of records. Like you I find Ancestry quite expensive so limit myself to occasional subscriptions and at the moment am not subscribed. In any case they're not too hot on Scottish Records. One of the best sites is www.*scotlandspeople *.gov.uk <http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/> which works on a credit system. Another Scottish site you might try is *www.scotlandsfamily.com/* <http://www.scotlandsfamily.com/>* *Meanwhile, I'll browse around to see if I can come up with anything for you. Hello Ray, Thanks for the contact. I'm afraid a connection is doubtfull. Although Rose Hammill's parents were both of Irish extraction (1900 Census), Rose herself was born in Pensylvania in abt 1877 - so her parents were in America by the time of her birth. Your Hammills could always be another branch of the family emigrating to America years later - but very difficult to prove. We'd need to find out where in Ireland Rose Hammill's parents originated. BTW we lived in County Antrim ourselves for three years in the '60s - A lovely County. Best wishes, Tony.
