    3. I've been deeply involved in a number of things for about a year or two that has taken me away from genealogy for the most part. However, I've been trying to get back into it again--particularly my Philadelphia genealogical connections--when I came to discover something screwy has happened to the old SSDI index I found so helpful. Figures that anything good has to go, or at least be tampered with. Is there anywhere on line that this informative database remains intact without having to join this or pay for that? Thanks, Vince Summers

    3. If someone who has access to Genealogy Bank would be so kind, I am looking for the following 2 Philadelphia deaths/obituaries: Henry Dettmar (or may be spelled Dittmer) - between 1920 and 1930. He may have been living at N. Thompson or N. 27th or possibly N. Marston at the time of his death. While in Philadelphia, he was a fireman at a power house. He moved from Chesapeake City, MD, sometime between 1880 and 1885. He is listed as a widow in the 1920 Philadelphia census. He may have been born November, 1845, in Germany. Caroline Dettmar (or may be spelled Dittmer) - his wife - between 1910 and 1920. She may have been living at N. Thompson or N. 27th or possibly N. Marston at the time of her death. She moved from Chesapeake City, MD, sometime between 1880 and 1885. She may have been born June, 1855, in Germany (specifically Prussia). Any help would be very much appreciated, as I have not been able to determine their dates of death nor the cemetery where they are buried, which I assume is in Philadelphia. 3. I want to thank everyone who is trying to help find the burial place of Josiah K Proctor.  I did just find a death notice for his wife who died in Wyncote PA 6 days later than he did, of pneumonia. In the notice it stated that her husband had died of pneumonia, too.   This notice was in a hometown newspaper in Ayer, Mass, where they originated.    Can anyone help me find a mortuary notice for his wife - Sarah Jane (Jennie) Wright Proctor died 2/17/1920.  He actually died 2/11/1920 in Ocean City and another researcher just sent me death info in City Hall there, but it did not list a cemetery, only that he was buried "in Philadelphia".   Since 2 of his children were buried at Mt Vernon cemetery, I am inclined to think he and his wife, Sarah Jane, are there too. Is there a CD or a list of burials at Mt Vernon cemetery?  He had served in a Mass regiment, filed for a pension in PA on 4/1910 according to a Pension card I found.  The HouseofProctor website is who asked me to help find his burial in Montgomery Co because he lived in Wyncote, near Cheltenham.  I now think he and his wife are probably buried at Mt Vernon, but need confirmation. Houseof Proctor doesn't have proof either!  I suggested they ask for his pension file and also for a death cert for his wife.   That is why I am asking for a mortuary notice for his wife, if there is one - 2/17/1920 Proctor, and maybe a day or 2 after.  They will add them to FindaGrave once they know for sure where they are buried.   Perhaps her mortuary notice will show a cemetery?  From looking at the archived messages for Philly-roots list, that Mt Vernon cemetery seemed to be so neglected, and entrance was locked?  This was a few years ago, and I wondered if anything has improved there since? Thank you again for all your help.  You are all so great, and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and here's to a better 2012. Diana in Alabama  audianaq@msn.com > From: "Vincent E. I found a short death notice for him in a remote newspaper, but hoping, because of his notoriety, that there is one in the Philadelphia papers. Also of his wife, Sarah J PROCTOR, who died bet 1920 and 1930. 2/13/1920 edition page 10 of The Patriot, a Harrisburg paper:Josiah K Proctor Dies-Noted Textile Inventor Philadelphia, Feb 12 - Josiah K Proctor, Wyncote, died today in Ocean City NJ. He was 72 years old. He was a native of Chelmsford, Mass. Mr. Proctor was inventor of a textile drying machine widely used in this country. He designed the first garnett machine in this country. In 1900 he lived in Philadelphia. In 1910 and 1920 census, he was in Cheltenham in Montgomery Co, but appears to have died in Ocean City NJ. 3. The city directories have nothing to do with the census. The city directories were published a year after they were compiled, e.g. the 1850 city directory was compiled in 1849. -----Original Message----- From: Mary Walsh <maryewalsh@hotmail.com> To: philly-roots <philly-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sun, Dec 11, 2011 8:37 am Subject: Re: [Phly-Rts] John Garratt aka Garrett - Spring Garden 1830 US Census t is my understanding that the Phila. city directories were up to date as of ctober of the year before.
