Maybe the Facebook page could be a way to encourage people to join it's sister Rootsweb list? The one strong asset of the Rootsweb lists are the searchable archives, but Facebook does have the advantage of allowing for the posting of photos. There is room for both. This isn't an end to the lists...please use them as you always have. Whether or not you would ALSO like to join the Facebook group is a matter of personal choice. Just like some people prefer chocolate or vanilla--and others like both. Additional resources are never a bad thing. Joan In a message dated 2/3/2012 6:52:37 P.M. Regardless...this was a VA error and not an error made by Ancestry.com. The deceased have no privacy rights while the living do...those misidentified as being deceased were the result of an error on the part of the VA. I think we've discussed this issue sufficiently on the list. Thanks! Joan, admin PHILLY-ROOTS@rootsweb.com In a message dated 2/3/2012 6:50:19 P.M. It will be just harder to get to and more trouble to write an answer to help people or ask for help, like the other sites that Ancestry has set up for email so most of us will just skip it. Jane, You are absolutely right. Ancestry should be stopped publicizing the personal information of living persons. That is entirely wrong and unethical among the well known expert genealogists. It is also particularly dangerous to the living persons in this day and age. They should be stopped somehow. Janet In a message dated 2/3/2012 2:51:14 P.M. Hi, Ed- Just an additional research tool. We may pick up some people who are not subscribed to our lists and prefer Facebook...and it can also serve as a place to post photos and other images not suitable for our lists. I am looking for an obituary for Susan (Heary) Sharra who died on October 28, 2006 in Philadelphia. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Some years back I researched with Dan Wilson on the Agnew’s. Wondering if Dan is still with the group? Would like to contact him with new Agnew information. Thanks, Jane
Thank you all for your helpful responses-obviously it has been awhile since I visited a FHC! I will order online. Thanks again. Kathy
The Philadelphia City Archives should also have those records. Kathy, If you send me the year and license number, I can give you the corresponding roll of film to order. With this you get the front page, license application and ministers return. Film is now ordered (credit card) over the net and the LDS will call when it is in for your viewing. They do not keep copies on hand. Or you can send to the Phila. Archives for a typed out copy. About $10.
