Hi Jacki - I was able to find the obit for Ernestine FIELD. I don't know if you have this already or not. Unfortunately there was a piece of paper over the day of death when they scanned it but it was in the 3/26/1890 Philadelphia Inquirer. I can e-mail you off list the actually scanned copy. FIELD,-- On the ? instant, ERNESTINE A. FIELD, widow of the late John Field and sister of the late General John J. Abercrombie, in the 96th year of her age. The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services, this morning, at 8:30 o'clock, from 1723 North Tenth street. High mass at St. Malachy's Church. Interment private. This is exactly (capitalizations, punctuations) as they appear in the obit. Hope this is helpful. Regards, Kathy

In a transcription of letter I have written by my 3-gg ERNESTINE (ABERCROMBIE) PEARSON FIELD, she refers to a CAROLINE in a very familiar way to my dear brother. Today I have learned that ERNESTINE (1796-1890) is buried (after being disinterred in 1910)in a lot purchased by CAROLINE MATHIEU at Holy Cross Cemetery. (the cemetery is sending me a full listing on all buried in family plot) I believe CAROLINE most likely is a grand daughter from her first marriage to ROBERT H. C. PEARSON that took place in 1812 in Jefferson County, KY. (ROBERT H. C. PEARSON may well have been born in KY) PHILIP MATHIEU may have taken a second wife as the children's parental birth information in 1880 census lists their mother's birth place as PA and PHILIP's wife MARY was born in TN. Having problems finding this family in census records earlier than 1880. Would anyone know anything about this MATHIEU family? see research below: ========================= Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania Ph. Does anyone have a site map of Mt. Vernon Cemetery? If so, please contact me privately. I will call the office, but hopping for a quicker response through this group. Thank you, Jane
Hi, Is this available via an online source? I do know the Philadephia Inquirer is, for some years... Public Ledger Thursday, 27 OCT 1859 Married At St. Peter's Church. June 2d, '59, by William H. Odenheimer, D. D., Bishop Elect of New Jersey, FREDERIC BURNETT SMITH to Miss EUGENIA PAULINE CURE, both of this city. [New York and Western papers please copy;] 521* Vince Summers
Can anyone tell me anything about a Mt Vernon Cemetery? At HSP I found a book dated 1886 that lists lot owners there. The office was located at 137 S. Fifth St. One of of the lot owners is Mary (Gominger) Carr, who was a sister of my 2nd great grandfather James Gominger. Up to this time most family had been buried at Odd Fellows, including Mary's father Joseph Gominger. In 1880, the obituary for her mother says buried at Mt Vernon. After that, all the family obituaries including those for Mary and her husband, both of whom died in 1892, say "Interment private" with no cemetery listed.. Is there a list anywhere of the burials at Mt Vernon? Is the cemtery still there? And why, if there was a funeral announced, would all the burials be 'private'? The Gominger family were German Lutherans, but by this time many were Methodists. Thanx Nancy
Folks, At least a third or fourth wife for Jule Ferdinand CURE: Charlotte SAAR, Rheinfalz or Dirmstadt or some such. Wed August 1, 1880. It seems that this is the true Lottie CURE in the 1880 census, and that Elizabeth LEHMAN was yet later! This makes it: Isabella M. DOMINGUEZ Charlotte "Lottie" SAAR Elizabeth "Lizzie" LEHMAN Violetta Cora RANDOLPH and perhaps a few assorted girlfriends, etc., etc. Does anyone have any info on the SAAR surname, perhaps between 1871 and 1900? I have reason to think they may have arrived via Castle Garden, though that is not set in stone. Quite possibly circa 1871. I deduce this from the 1880 census for SAAR (surely Charlotte would have had family with her who lived in Phila), and from the Castle Garden website. Thanks! Vince

Vince, Didn't check on the map, and not sure if any renumbering has occurred since the time period you have here, but know that the 200 block of North 2nd street, would be about 2 blocks North of Market or High Street, around Race Street, and 287 Callowhill runs parallel to Market or High a few blocks North of that street, at the 400 block North of that street, and the address would be between 2nd and 3rd street. I would say that they are in relatively close proximity. I am guessing a few blocks apart. The Ben Franklin Bridge today is right in that location. Dave
1816: Cure Louis, watchmaker and jeweller 227 N. 2d 1810: Cure Walter, shoemaker 287 Callowhill The above Louis CURE is a connection of mine. Walter remains unknown at the moment, but surely must connect somehow! Now in October 17, 1797, there was an advertisement offering money for the return of a runaway apprenticed boy named Walter CURE who was wanted by Thomas HAYS, shoemaker! Surely all of this connects somehow. Louis had come from NY to Philadelphia, and and a bit later, returned to NY, where he died in 1848. Now if Walter was an apprentice in 1797, surely he was born sometime about 1787 or a few years before - says 1782 to 1787. Louis, on the other hand, was born 1785 - 1790. A brother? A cousin? A stranger? Thanks for any tips/leads... By the way, a Walter Cure was found for 1790, 1810, and 1820 in New York. Vince Summers
