Debbie, I am looking for an obituary for Sarah Stevens who died in 1882. She was a resident of Somerton. She was 90 years of age. Can you help me. Norma Stilwell
Hi all- One of my Great Aunts, Edith Fletcher, was in Friends' Hospital in Pennsylvania, on the 1920 census. I can't find her in 1930, and she was basically erased from her sister's handwritten family history. I haven't been able to find a death notice for her or an obituary. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to obtain info on deceased Friends Hospital patients? thanks! Kate Charlottesville, Virginia --------------------------------- Have a burning question? Nelson..... Thank you so much for finding what you did! At least I have a death date for her now! Anyone with a HIPPLE name belongs to the emigrant Johannes HIPPEL/HIPPLE whose children settled in Chester Co and their descendents spread around, and I have most of them in my tree because one married a SAVAGE, which is one of my lines. I had no luck finding Rosanna and Jonathan LEVERING in Leverington Cemetery, but I know they are there somewhere! <Woops, Just remembered my GenBank.... found an obit....Rosanna died 30 Mar <1911....funeral services at the home of her son Samuel Levering at 5543 Ridge <Ave., Roxborough....interment private...but I'd bet you'll find her beside her <husband at Leverington Cemetery. I did a little more searching around and it seems GSP has cemetery records that include Leverington and also Mount Peace. It might be worth a trip or query there too...... Google searching for "roxborough manayunk wissahickon historical society" brought up several pages......and I found an old posting that said they have at least some of the records for Leverington...... and a google book search for "leverington cemetery" brought up another 11 hits. put the queries in all in lower case and *with* the quotes..... Hope this helps someone, Dianne
Laurel Hill has many tours - some guided and for a fee. There is also a self-guided driving tour with a fee for a booklet. I believe there is also a tape. Check their website - theundergroundmuseum.org. There is plenty of off street parking, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and it is beautiful. Pat Ingersoll Yes, I'd be interested in doing that. There are cemeteries that I will not visit as I don't feel safe going alone due to either the neighborhood's reputation or unfamiliarity with the area. I hope this isn't off topic, it seems relevant to me, but one thing if a group does get together: parking is simply not available at Mt. Peace. I went there once (by accident!) and will not go back alone, but in that one trip, I did learn that if there were several cars, there is no place to park them. I wonder if one of the historical societies has something like this planned for spring? It would add safety (we don't know each other), would drum up business for them (if parking at one of them, we'd probaby visit too, and I'd be willing to pay for a tour guide), they might know of the best times to avoid funerals or the busy times, and maybe carpooling could be arranged that way as well. Two non-Phila historical societies that I'm aware of held bus trips to accomplish this sort of thing. I would very much like to visit Mt Vernon and Northwood. Germantown Historical Society mentions cemetery and other tours through GHS, so that's a way to see Germantown and I'm hoping to do that, though so far don't have a group to go with. Does anyone know if this sort of tour is already available elsewhere? Dashmom@aol.com wrote: A thought for Spring..........? I'd love to get to Mt. Peace, but I'm not going there alone!
