Pat, This is the correct Charles Dredden WWII Regis. This is my paternal Grfather. Francis was my aunt, his daughter..Charles (Jr.age6) is listed as Dreden in the 1900 census. The Casey listed is his mother. He was born before their marriage in 1898 (Wilbert and Casey's) But he's listed as Dreden. His sister is listed as Catherine R. Carter. I think that was on HQ tho. Maybe ancestry lists different. thanks Hazel I found the 1900 census-the Charles age 6 (Casey's son) is a Carter not Dredden. Interesting note: I found Casey listed in 1900 with her father in Chester under the name of Carter and also in Germantown working for a family named Thomas but under the name of Dredden.
Hello I have several BROWN relatives buried at Oakland Cemetery. I did find their address of the cemetery so I can contact them ,but wondered if anyone on the list has contacted them for records. Do they respond to mail requests for information? What is their fee? Thanks for sharing your experiences with me. The 1890 death indexes and register are definitely available at the City Archives. Nancie, I am not the person who sent you the Leverington Cemetery contct person, but I came across it tonight. This dates back to 1999, but the person I corresponded with is: John Laberteaux, Treasurer 3470 Dartmouth Drive Bethlehem. Pa. 18017-2073 The name does not appear in the Social Security Death Index, so I assume he is still among us. My family in this cemetery are as follows: Lot 18, Section 8, Division C Martin Herion age 77 4/11/1903 Marie Herion (should be Anna Marie) 75 12/26/1906 John S. Herion 1 year 7/30/1913 August Herion 60 12/29/1928 Ida Herion 64 4/8/1933 Amelia Herion 49 10/1/1940 and Lavena Herion 70 11/2/1939 who is listed in the wrong plot, due to a clerical error. We believe she is buried in Lot 9, Section 13, Division B, since she owned the lot and her husband is there Others in Lot 9, Sec.13, Div. B are: John M. Herion 66 2/13/1933 Elmer Herion 43 2/12/1937 John Cannon 15 2/2/1965 Phoebe K. Herion 88 1/11/1982 Elmer M. Herion 69 6/10/1989 The other lot I've listed contains some members of the Winkler family.. . this is the lot that a clerical error had my grandmother interred in. We know it was an error, because my father faithfully visited his mother's grave and he would have noticed had she not been beside his father in the other lot. Funny thing, because of the error, we had been paying for annual care for the Winklers from 1939 to 1999... oh well... Lot 9 Section 12 Division B Samuel Winkler 73 5/25/1926 Henrietta Winkler 75 5/14/1931 Emma Winkler 50 8/21/1946 Harry S. Winkler 74 10/25/1963 I was interested to find my Great-grandmother, Caroline Broughton, listed on your Cemetery site. It is a valuable service you have and are providing. thank you. My great grandmother Anna Maria Ford was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 19, 1826. Her parents were Thomas and Joanna Ford. On June 1, 1843 Anna Maria married Hanson Murray in the Church of the Evangelist, Philadelphia . Hanson Murray was born about 1822, and nothing more is known of his origin. Hanson Murray died in September 1844 and was buried in Union Cemetery on September 30, 1844. The mystery relates to an entry in the 1850 US Census for Philadelphia that lists Joanna Ford (age 50), Anna Murray (age22), and Thomas Murray (age 5). If this Thomas Murray is the son of Anna Maria Ford and Hanson Murray, he must have been born posthumously. I have not been able to find this trio in later censuses. I want to determine whether they are my kin. My great grandmother Anna Murray (nee Ford) remarried on September 8, 1863. Her second spouse was John Smith Sterling, a native of Maryland and a Navy veteran of the War with Mexico. In Philadelphia, John worked in trades associated ships and ship supplies. This was possibly Johns second marriage as well. In addition to solving the Murray mystery, I am trying to identify ancestors of Anna Maria Ford and John Smith Sterling. Johns parents were George and Lydia Sterling. Any lead or suggestion would be welcomed All the Best! Hi I am very interested in some look ups for the years 1935, 1950, 1954 and 1958. My family lived right around the corner from St. Adalbert's Church. At that time I believe it was the Polish/Lithuanian section of Philadelphia. They lived on Belgrade St. I have checked with the Free Library of Philadelphia and they have been unable to help me. Perhaps the Thomas Murray in the 1850 census was born in the summer of 1844, or in September 1844 before Hanson's death. The census records I've looked at were usually taken sometime in the spring. A person who was born in the summer of 1844 wouldn't have celebrated his 6th birthday yet, when the 1850 census was taken. apologies! -----Original Message----- From: LaniMacA@comcast.net To: PHILLY-ROOTS@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, 1 Mar 2007 4:34 AM Subject: [Phly-Rts] How to find books --From another mailing list:-- There is an easy way to find books that are in libraries that have their catalogues linked online. This is most public libraries, many college libraries and some genealogical/historical society libraries. The site is WorldCat [OCLC)] http://www.worldcat.org/ Use the search engine to search for a specific title or author or subject. A search for William D. Bennett gave a list of books he had written. Click on the desired book title and it will give a list of libraries that hold that book. If you enter your zip code, it will even sort the libraries by distance from your home. For example: I searched on William D. Bennett and got 1629 hits for William Bennett even though I had specified the middle initial D. I refined the search specifically for William D. Bennett and got 37 hits--a manageable number. I chose "Orange County Records" and got a list of 72 libraries that hold that title, the nearest of which is 66 miles from my home. This has helped me find lots of books. I now keep a list of books and their locations. When I travel, I know what libraries I need to visit!! -- Good for inter-library loan requests too. It works for genealogy books. ********* Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PHILLY-ROOTS ********* ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PHILLY-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. Military Records Ancestry.com World War II Registration Charles Dredden age 60 Born Chester, PA May 27, 1881 600 Buttonwood St. Philadelphia, PA Employer: WPA Person who will always know where you are: Mrs. Frances Howard, 1324 N. Perth St. (no indication of how related) I found the 1900 census-the Charles age 6 (Casey's son) is a Carter not Dredden. Interesting note: I found Casey listed in 1900 with her father in Chester under the name of Carter and also in Germantown working for a family named Thomas but under the name of Dredden. Are you tracing all the Dreddens or just a particular line? There seems to be a lot of them and quite a variety of spellings.
