The DEPUYs in Philadelphia - most were family - owned a carpet business. One married a FITZGERALD of mine - that is Thomas DEPUY married Emily "Emma" Jeanette FITZGERALD. Emily Blanche DEPUY was born in August of 1869. She wed a Mr. BALDWIN - of unknown first name. Apparently that BALDWIN's obituary was in the Inquirer. It is in the database that some have access to. The date was April 13, 1900, and he was in Asheville - I believe in North Carolina? Can anyone dig up that image? Thanks, Vince Summers

Jim, No fee was charged/collected to be listed in the Phila. City Directories. To be listed you had to be employed or a head of household (employed or not). Neither age nor gender were a criterion. I believe that widows were listed as such for only one or two years after their husband's death, after which they were listed (as long as they remained head of household or employed) without the notation "wid. I would like to know if anyone knows the FH library film number for a Marriage of July 4, 1899 last name is Kuech, (I have the marriage cert # if needed)in the Orphan's Court. I had what I thought was the correct film, but ends up it is a film for Amsterdam. I would appreciate your help. The library found a 1892 Philly City Directory address entry where one of my relatives lived at the time she was married. Harvey, Mary, nurse, 2108 Webster I believe this entry is either the mother or sister of my relative, Kate Harvey. Can I assume that by the way it is listed, without a "wid John" for instance, that Mary is single? Who got to be listed the City Directory in that timeframe? Head of household, anyone over 21, if you had an occupation, paid for an entry, were the rules for listing a woman different than a man???
