1. [Phly-Rts] Immigrant being detained
2. Can someone please explained this reason why a immigrant was being detained when the ship came into Philadelphia? My great-grandfather was suppose to go to Boston. The ship docked at the Philadelphia port. He decided to get off in Philadelphia instead. But the Immigrant Inspector detained him and another fellow who were both 19 or 20 for the following reason Detained as "being persons likely to become a public charge". Needless to say, the Captain let them escape and the Captain was charged and held for violating the Unite States Immigrant laws at the time. He later had to pay a fine. 3. It's hard to say exactly where 6 North 9th St. was in 1830 but it was probably in the North Ward. It certainly was not in the Upper Delaware Ward. 2. Jim and Mariana Blain
3. I have for years been trying to figure out who my great-great grandmother's parents were. I have been looking at census records and trying to figure whether there is any possibility that we could identify a district in the Philadelphia census with a street name. I believe that my great-great grandfather, Addison Bean, who married Mary Ann OWEN (b. May 1817) in May 1837, was a boarder in her mother's boarding house while he was in medical school. The boarding house in 1835 was located at 6 North 9th Street. In the 1830 census, I find an Ann OWEN and a John OWEN both listed with a female resident about the right age (under 15) in Upper Delaware Ward. Can anyone tell me what ward 6 North 9th St. would have been in, in 1830? Jim Blain

But the listing of one and all is truly great. It takes into account that some in the future, who are not listers, may, as a result, have the opportunity to find their family, too. 3. I've seen undertaker records at GSP, HSP, and at my local FHC. A quick search on www.familysearch.org on "undertakers philadelphia" brings up several results. A search on www.hsp.org using the OPAC brings up a lots of results as well; Frankenfield is listed at HSP though I didn't check the dates. Wendy Flickinger <WendyFlickinger@nc.rr.com> wrote: I noticed the reference to undertaker records. Are these commonly available? Where? I need records for folks handled by Frankenfield & Son, D. G. Frankenfield (same company??), H. B. Mulligan, O. H. Bair, amd Earle. Dates are from 1908 through 1959 plus a 1982. 1. [Phly-Rts] Philly Census Lookup / DREDDEN - JONES - PRATIS
2. larzemail
3. She won't be found in the 1910 census, as she died in 1909. Today, when looking for something else, I came across an undertaker record for her: Mary A. Dredden, wife of William D. Dredden, age 63, died 09 May 1909. She was born in Delaware to John H. JONES and Amelia PRATIS, both born in Delaware as well. Resource: Kirk & Nice Undertaker Records. I'd suggest following up on this using Rootsweb lists for Delaware. With these names added to Mary A.'s, does anyone else connect to this family? There were quite a few DREDDENs (DREDEN) in Philadelphia. 3. I had a chance to look this up & another you were looking for, Thornton BARNES. Tough films to read! However, Mount Peace is the cemetery both Thornton and Hannah are buried in per the Register of Deaths in the City of Philadelphia film held at the FHC, Broomall, PA. From: "Diana Quinones" < DisplayMail('msn.com','audianaq'); audianaq@msn.com> Guess it will have to be the City Archives! grrrh! Anyone going there that can lookup Hannah for where buried? It must be in Phila, not in her native home area. --------------------------------- The fish are biting.
