    3. I located 2045 Gratz in Ward 36 ED 940, but Wm. shelly and family are there. No apparent connection to Henry Thompson who was buried from there in 1901. In 1910- 2045 Gratz is in Ward 32 ED 758, but Clayton Miller and family are there. Thanks to anyone who started looking. Jane

    3. The Spanish Influenza... You can't believe everything you hear, but you can repeat it, and present it as a possibility... I have heard that the No Spitting signs in Philadelphia (or you get fined $50) originated because of the SI. Anyone know if that is true? It must not have been considered correct to attribute deaths to the Spanish Influenza back then. Vince

    1. Re: [Phly-Rts] Mortuary Schedule
    2. It was a separate census taken for those who died within the census year, when the census was being taken. i.e. If the 1860 census was being taken in June, the census takers went back to June of 1859 to June of 1860 and listed those who had died, on a separate piece of paper. 3. My great grandfather died of the flu in Philadelphia. The page that his obit was on had many other flu victims as well. I have obits from A-Brockerhoff. At the bottom of the page it says that obits are continued on the next page. His death certificate listed both pneumonia and influenza as the cause of death. He died on October 7,1918. Here are some good websites on the flu: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/influenza/timeline/index.html http://www.upenn.edu/gazette/1198/lynch.html Debra

I don't have the link any more since it was on my old system that had a meltdown. Perhaps someone else will remember this link and be able to send it. Good luck! 3. Hi Jack, I am not old enough to remember the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 but I remember my Dad and Mom telling stories about it in Anaconda, Montana. My Dad's first cousin, Tony Solan from Tullinahoo, Swinford, County Mayo died from it shortly after he arrived in the U.S. from Ireland. They had quarantine signs in the windows of those who were ill. My Mom was about 7 at the time and she said if they saw a quantine sign they ran quickly to the other side of the street and kept running. I can't say regarding Pennsylvania records but I have my cousin Tony Solan's death certificate and it does not list Spanish Flu or the influenza. It lists pneumonia. Many of those who died from the influenza died from complications such as pneumonia. The death toll world wide was approximately 40 million people. More soldiers in WWI died from the influenza than they did from war related wounds. What amazes me is that in the history books here in my area of California don't even mention the Spanish Flu Pandemic. 1. [Phly-Rts] LUDERITZ - ANDERSON - BEVAN
    2. I am trying to find ANY information on the following family, esp Rhoda W LUDERITZ Rhoda married Henry ANDERSON b @1841 PA sometime after the 1860 census. I have been unable to locate Henry and Rhoda on the 1870 census, but have found them in 1880 in NJ. I believe they had a daughter Clara E. who married Harrison BEVAN. Clara was born 1860-1861. Does anyone have census access to 1870 other than Ancestry that may be able to find Henry and Rhoda ANDERSON with a daughter Clara or Ella? Henry and Rhoda are listed in an 1899 Obit for Horace Bevan ( Clara E and Harrison Bevan's son) as his grandparents. Henry is noted as the Late Henry B Anderson.
