Keep in mind that Castle Gardens like Ellis Island after it represents NEW YORK ship arrivals. I'd suggest for searching ship arrivals to begin with Steve Morse's site and find the port of arrival (including Philadelphia) you are looking for: http://stevemorse.org/ Joan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

On October 24, 1824, the brig DELIGHT arrived in Philadelphia with, I think, my gr-gr-grandfather. Does anyone know: 1) how many passengers a brig could transport?; and, 2) where I would find a complete passenger list? The subscription online resource I use lists only seven passengers and I'm almost certain there are more. Hi everyone, I know little about Mortality Schedules, but from what I've found on the web, it looks like they were only collected for census years 1850-1880. I have a relative in PA who died July 21,1899. I thought maybe there would be info on her in a 1900 mortality schedule, but alas, it looks like there isn't one. Am I out of luck, or does it exist somewhere, perhaps just not on Ancestry??? Thanks, Rich --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Listers, Here's another puzzle that maybe a few of you can help solve: There is a Bucks County, PA Orphans Court File [#2757], dated Sept. 1, 1819, which mentions Joseph VANDEGRIFT as deceased and lists his children as: "Hannah, Emily, John, Benjamin, and "Beans". My questions are: Who was the mother of these children? What was the real name of the child named "Beans"? and What was "Beans' " date of birth? Any help on this mystery would be greatly appreciated. I just received 2 death certs for Philly ancestors, and neither one had a mother's maiden name. Instead, there was a question mark. One of them, I have already learned the mother's name, but the other, I was hoping this would be the key to going back one more generation. Her marriage record has not been found, her parents' names are unknown, and her death record & obit provide no clues for parents other than they were each born in Phila. She did receive a pension for her husband's Civil War service, and I'm ordering that today (was holding off due to expense). Is there any other record to use to learn who her parents are? Her children didn't know because they filled out her death record with the question marks, and their births were at a time when maiden names weren't provided. --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? I know this has been true in the past, Holy Cross in particular. Whatever has happened appears to be a recent policy decision. It would be interesting to know if the staff from previously cooperative cemeteries are telling callers the same story or just continuing to help. jo ----- Original Message ----- From: <TCall2004@comcast.net> To: <philly-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2007 07:03 AM Subject: [Phly-Rts] Archdiocese clamp down on burial information? > I have far better success with getting info from Catholic cemeteries. > > The folks at Holy Cross and St. Denis are aces! > > > ********* > Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PHILLY-ROOTS > ********* > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PHILLY-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.6.2/780 - Release Date: 04/29/2007 06:30 AM > > -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I have far better success with getting info from Catholic cemeteries. The folks at Holy Cross and St. Denis are aces!
St. Charles Borromeo is a Catholic church at 20th & Christian Streets, in Philadelphia, PA. Here is a link to the particulars of the church from the Archdiocese website. The church was founded in 1868. That was an Irish area: http://www.archdiocese-phl.org/parishes/7695.htm You folks would appear to have been married by a minister at this church.
