    1. Re: [Phly-Rts] Fairmount Market
    2. Jane: More then likely the market you mention was on 2nd Street. 2nd Street from around Poplar to Fairmount is very wide to allow for the market stalls that ran down the middle. I'm not sure when it closed, but it was open in the early 1900's. Fairmount Ave is too narrow for stalls in that area. Ken Milano may have information on it. 1. Re: [Phly-Rts] WWII records
    2. I actually answered my own question. I went onto the NARA website. They have Enlistments for 1838-46, which ancestry.com has, some POW records and some draft registrations. I'm looking for all the draft registrations, which are not available. Also on this site they tell how you can get someone's records. I sent to the National Personnel Records Center or something like that and got a record for my father--very brief, but maybe that will help you. 1. Re: [Phly-Rts] 2323 Lombard Street, Philadelphia
    2. Dear Madam: I am assuming we are still talking about the year 1900? If so, then 23rd & Filbert would be in the 9th Ward, 29th & Thompson should be the 29th Ward, and 1923 Ann Street should be the 25th Ward. At the following website you have a genealogy of ward maps for Philadelphia: http://marie.bravepages.com/phila.htm You could use mapquest.com, type in your address, find out where it is today (if still in existence), then compare the modern map of today with the historical maps at this website, and you'll be able to figure out any address and what ward it use to be in. 1. [Phly-Rts] Germantown Boundaries
    2. Eugene Stackhouse
    3. I have received many queries in the last few weeks for information on people who lived on Germantown Ave. but not in Germantown, therefore: Germantown Boundaries: The boundaries of the original German Township, Philadelphia County, are very close to the boundaries that now exist for the modern neighborhood of Germantown (including Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill). When the city and county of Philadelphia were consolidated in 1854 the German Township became the 22nd Ward of the City and County of Philadelphia. Germantown Avenue begins at Laurel St. in Northern Liberties, near the Delaware River, and extends northwest through the city to Northwestern Ave., the border between Philadelphia and Montgomery County (Germantown Ave. is considered a North-South street in Philadelphia). Germantown begins on the South at 4500 Germantown Ave. at Wayne Junction. The southern boundary is, roughly Roberts Ave. southwest to Wissahickon Ave. East of Germantown Ave. and North along the R7 SEPTA Railroad line to 20th St., then North on 20th St. to Limekiln Pike to Stenton Ave. Then NW on Stenton Ave. to Northwestern Ave (the Montgomery County line). From that intersection the boundary goes SW to the Wissahickon Creek. The boundary then goes back again SE along the Wissahickon Creek to the Junction of the creek with Allens Lane, over Allens Lane to Wissahickon Ave. and back down Wissahickon Ave. to Roberts Ave. Germantown is bordered by Montgomery County, Roxborough, East Falls, Nicetown (sometimes called Tioga-Nicetown), Logan, Fern Rock, and West Oak Lane. Germantown itself has many sub-neighborhoods, as do most neighborhoods in Philadelphia. There are often controversies regarding neighborhood boundaries in Philadelphia but Germantown’s boundaries are pretty much controversy free. Gene Stackhouse "24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. 2. Hello helpful listers! I discovered in ship records the family of Isaac Long coming into Philadelphia in May of 1853. Can someone help me find them in the 1860 census? I am not sure if the family below is actually two family for example Isaac Long and his wife Jane are the parents of John and his wife Jane. If so, it would be more important for me to see the census of John, Jane and his family as I am tracing the whereabouts of their son William. Here they are in 1853 on the ship records: Isaac Long 56 Farmer b. England Jane age 50 John age 36 Jane age 30 William age 13 Joseph age 11 Charles age 9 George age 7 John age 6 Luke age 4 Betsey age 1 Thank you for any help!
