    2. I visited the Free Quaker meeting house at 5th and Arch today. The historical interpeter said that there were about 500 Quakers who supported the revolutionary war. Some of these Quakers started the Free Quaker meeting house. These people were read out of the regular meetings and wanted full participation so they started their own Free Quaker meeting house. milt botwinick philadelphia ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    2. Dear readers Having spent days and days searching for my Donnelly family could I please ask if someone could confirm that the Knickerbocker Ice Company was situated in Wards 6 and 10. As my Michael was said to have worked there in 1897 I am hoping that he was living in the area at that time. Having spent so much time searching unsuccessfully for other family members in other wards I am now going cross-eyed and would hate to find that having covered wards 6 and 10, I was on the wrong track all along. Please can someone help. Eileen

    3. Eileen, Have you tried 1890 Philadelphia Directory @ http://olddirectorysearch.com for your Donnelly family? You can also pull up Knickerbockebocker Ice Co and it's locations are given. I'd say the Del warf and Market St warf would possibly be in the lower ward numbers. 1. Re: [Phly-Rts] Auto funeral ??
    2. snip I would suspect that it means the funeral procession will be in automobiles not carriages with horses. end snip Why did I not think of that. Now that you explain it should have been quite obvious to me but where I made my mistake was in not imagining how things were done in 1918. Nowadays to see a funeral procession with horses is quite uncommon but it does happen (in Liverpool) on the very odd occasion. Searching further for details of William E Lacy's death I discovered that he was one of the unfortunate people who died during the Spanish Flu pandemic. I was even lucky enough to find his name listed in the following newspaper - Public Ledger, October 15, 1918 under the heading of "All Walks of Life Invaded by Plague. Doctors, Soldiers, Business Men and City Employes (sic) on Death Roll. Toll of Victims Wide" Eileen

    1. [Phly-Rts] BENJAMIN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of David BENJAMIN & Son of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1890's or early 1900's with David likely in his 40's at the time it was taken and his son about 12 years old. In addition to his name and the location, someone has also written "Uncle" and "My Mother's Brother in Law" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited information I believe I was able to locate the family in census records as follows: 1910 census of Philadelphia, PA: David BENJAMIN, age 42, married 25 years, born Russia, parents born Russia, a Clothing Factory Tailor Fannie BENJAMIN, wife, age 41, married 25 years, 6 children/5 living, born England, parents born Russia Morris BENJAMIN, son, age 22, born England, a Leather Goods Salesman Harry BENJAMIN, son, age 20, born MA, a Mens Clothing Cutter Rose BENJAMIN, dau, age 15, born MA, a Waist Factory Operator Meyer BENJAMIN, son, age 11, born England 1920 census of Philadelphia, PA: Morris BENJAMIN, age 32, born England, parents born England, a Trunks Buyer Sarah BENJAMIN, wife, age 29, born PA, parents born Russia Ralph BENJAMIN, son, age 8, born PA Lenora BENJAMIN, dau, age 1, born PA Harry BENJAMIN, age 29, born MA, parents born England, a Cloth Fabic Cutter Bessie BENJAMIN, wife, age 28, to USA 1893, born Russia, parents born Russia Sydney BENJAMIN, son, age 5 years + 3 months, born PA Delia DENNENBURG, Mother-in-law, age 57, a widow, to USA 1893, born Russian, parents born Russia I'm hoping to locate someone from this BENJAMIN Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family.
