I have been looking for Philip FINNEY born in Philly born Sept 12, 1892, he was in New York, Long Island by 1930 census , father born in Ireland. After many searches my Brother Ed finds a Philip FINEMAN in Philly 1920 census with a wife Estelle (same name as 1930), daughter Jean (Gina in 1930). Parents born in Russia. SS application says parents Abraham Finney & Sarah Leshem. Next we found an Abe Fineman in Philly, with a wife Sarah and a son Philip along with 4 more kids, born in Russia. Has anyone run into this before? Russian becoming Irish??? Was there a problem being Russian & maybe Jewish in 1820, they seem to have made the name change when they moved to NY. Any ideas where I could look for records of name change in that time period? By the way Philip was buried Baptist, could be two different families I know but names & ages are awfully close. Thanks, Carol L. Heap FL

Joan, I sent for four birth certificates from 1871 - 1892 for my great-grandmother and some of her children. They were all born in Philadelphia and all born at home. I sent my request to the City Archives. I received all four birth certificates within a short time, probably less than a month. I sent for them in July 2008. The four certificates cost me total $36. You can call them to find out what they are charging now. http://www.phila.gov/phils/Docs/Inventor/genealgy.htm Alexa --- On Tue, 5/19/09 I would like to send for 3 birth certificates, one from 1886, one from 1890 and one from 1897. Would these be available from the city archives on Market Street, and is the fee $10.00 per certificate? Thank you for your help. Joan
I know in PA in the late 1700s a man could not own land unless he was at least 21. Was that the same in the late 1690s? Can I reasonably assume a person who bought land in 1698 was at least 21? **************Dinner Made Easy Newsletter - Simple Meal Ideas for Your Family. Sign Up Now! Wow, when Patti asked the question, I did not think it was possible. So one can just write and get this info? Does the person have to be deceased. Do you have any details? Try www.va.gov - there is a section for forms and I believe you might be able to fill it out online - not sure. Also - visit your Veterans Affairs office nearest you - it may be listed under county, state, or federal - they will be able to help you out. -------------------------------------------------- From: "P Valverde" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 2:38 PM To: <[email protected]> Subject: [Phly-Rts] Military Picture and Discharge Papers > Hi Everyone, > How or is it even possible to obtain a military picture of a relative who > served during the years 1938-1946. Hi, Patti- I know your query has already received a response but I'm wondering as to how your query pertains to Philadelphia research? Is there a connection between the service and records available in or pertaining to Philadelphia? If so, it would be helpful in allowing the list member to assist you and, if not, then another list would be more appropriate for this query. Thanks! This was a generic question, and since my relative was a Philadelphian I posted here. If they is a different more "appropiate" list I should have posted on then perhaps your listing it for me would have been more helpful than the reply you gave. Sorry you feathers got ruffled. Lecture and Fair. 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. At the Chester County Historical Society 225 N. High Street, West Chester, PA. Wondering what genealogy software to use? Our speakers will discuss these issues and more to help you understand and use genealogy software programs, merge files, resolve conflicts, clean up old files, identify potential issues, and document sources and repositories. Examples from all major programs will be presented, so you can find the best software for your own use and see how others have resolved similar problems. David M. There's a good chance they may not have any record of those births. I've sent for birth certs for a couple of my people, pre-1900, and there were none. A lot of people were born at home back then and I don't think the state or city were very strict about registering the births back then. The only thing they found for my paternal grandfather from February 1898 was a hospital record from the old Women's Medical Center. I would like to send for 3 birth certificates, one from 1886, one from 1890 and one from 1897. Would these be available from the city archives on Market Street, and is the fee $10.00 per certificate? Thank you for your help. Joan
I went to the site you listed and get no info on birth certs. only death certs. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 19, 2009 2:18 PM Subject: Re: [Phly-Rts] Birth Certificates > Hi Joan: > If all need is the information from the birth certificates the Family > History Centers have a cite _http://familysearchlabs.org/_ > (http://familysearchlabs.org/) that has Philadelphia Births to 1915. > Good luck Joe > **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750. That's a broad question. What "information" are you looking for? Contact the Atwater Kent Museum, 15 S. 7th St., Philadelphia. No American has died of old age since 1951. That was the year the government eliminated that classification on death certificates.
