    3. Last year I had contact with Holy Cross cemetery. The people there were very nice and sent me exactly what I was looking for. Also, if I had questions they were receptive. Now if you ask some of the other cemeteries for instance New Cathedral good luck! If you have any trouble you can always contact Robert Whomsley, director of Archdiocesan Cemeteries. He'll get back to you. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of John Hogg Sent: Tuesday, August 11, 2009 7:13 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Phly-Rts] Holy Cross Cemetery Back in the days when you could communicate directly I queried Holly Cross about a Magee Family. 3. It depends on the funeral home. Some have extensive records, some don't. --- On Sun, 8/9/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > From: [email protected] <[email protected]> > Subject: [Phly-Rts] funeral home records > To: [email protected] > Date: Sunday, August 9, 2009, 4:44 PM > Does anyone know what information > Philadelphia funeral home records  from > the late 1830's would have?  They have some from that > period I could  order > from the LDS but I am not sure if it would do me any  > good.       Thank you.  >   Doug > > > ********* > Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PHILLY-ROOTS > ********* > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the > subject and the body of the message >

    3. Well, considering the city budget cuts and threatened branch closings, we can be thankful they didn't cut this service completely - which was the best bargain around but severely under-priced for the value! Thanks for the heads up. Marian in Virginia Beach Effective July 27, 2009 the Free Library changed its service fee policy. Our new fee structure is as follows for the Newspaper Department: $10 for up to 3 "look up" requests (whether or not staff can find the obituaries) plus $5 for shipping/handling for all photocopy requests sent through U.S. Post. We are currently in the process of editing our web page to reflect these changes. In the interim, there will be a grace period during which we will continue to charge the $1.00 fee for two searches. 1. Re: [Phly-Rts] Obits from "Free" Library
    2. $10.00 for three obits and $5.00 for shipping seems rather cheap. I could not charge less. I think they priced themselves very competively with those folks who do obit lookups. The city is strapped for cash, the state is a month late with a budget  and the library system in particular is very strapped for cash. They are closing some branch libraries and others are having their hours cut back. A number of swimming pools are not opened this summer. Granted when you go to the newspaper room at the Main Branch there is always three people sitting behind the desk reading newspapers or books, they should unload one of these folks and probably will.
