My wife's grandfather Morris Phillips was born in Klaverie, Russia in 1877. He came to America as a young man. He was the first in his family to come over. I don't know how he came to use the name Phillips. But when his siblings asked what name to use, he told them to use Phillips. My wife's brother's has some travel and immigration documents written in Cyrillic that probably has names on it. Unfortunately, he has a short term memory problem and can't remember to send it to us, so he is holding it till we come and get it. He lives in Lansing MI. Morris was married twice. First to a lady named Minnie and 2nd to Gizella Schwartz b. Kosice Slovakia 5 Nov 1890. He was murdered in 1926 in a robbery. He owned some apartment buildings in Detroit. He was going home after making rounds to collect the rents when he was robbed and killed. I don't know his route to America, but he was naturalized in Detroit in 1896. He did have siblings that came over, but his widow did not keep in contact with them. Last summer, we retrieved several boxes of personal possessions that belonged to my wife's father. I haven't been able to go through it. There is so much that I can't get the energy up to go through it. Gene
