Frances was born June 9, 1910 in Coatesvlle, Pennsylvania to the blessed union of Samuel P. and Laura Coleman Phillips. In 1926 Frances was united in marriage to Robert Lee Lewis and to this union eight children were born. Frances was employed by the Goodwill Industries where she was a care giver and house mom for several young adults who loved her and to whom she was affectionately known as "Mom." She was a former member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna, Ohio where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and youth teacher for several years. She was presently a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she once again took up her charge as a Sunday School teacher until her health began to fail. Throughout her lifetime, she received numerous awards and honors for both her civic and religious missions. Frances loved being with family and friends, making meals from scratch. Homemade applesauce and chili were her specialties. She was a member of Knights of Pythian, Court of Calanthe. Frances leaves to cherish her memory five children, Robert (Gloria) Lewis of Annandale, Va., Frances "Dolly" Gillison of Youngstown, Ohio; Laura (Donald) Loftin of Fayetteville, N.C., Dolores (Robert) Martin of Ravenna, Ohio and John (Stephanie) Lewis of San Francisco; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Williams and Nettie Jenkins; a brother, James (Freda) Phillips, all of Youngstown; godson, Paul Justice; lifelong friend O'Neal Brent; and a host of family and friends. Besides her parents, Rev. Samuel and Laura Phillips, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert who passed away in 1959; three children, Richard, Raymond and Jessie; five sisters, Elizabeth, Mary Ellen, Ruth, Laura and Audrey; six brothers, Samuel, Richard, Jessie, Louis, Joseph and Timothy. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
