    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nNABAIB/5404.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: my interest in Phillips/Philipps?....... see some of the messages I have posted "Herbert John Philipps married Sarah Morey newchurch IOW 10-9-1825 children Sarah b 1826 IOW Herbert b 1828 IOW Horatio b 1830 St Peter Port Guernsey Rowland b 1832 Southampton (father schoolmaster of West End) Emma Louisa b 1834 South Stoneham father schoolmaster George Morey b 1835 South Stoneham father schoolmaster Mary Ann b 1839 Nursling father schoolmaster Horatios daughter Jane Caroline b 1859 Castle Lane Southampton (mother Jane Golding)*insisted* on "one L three P's" in her name and gave herself airs about her fine welsh ancestry, and claimed kinship to the Viscounts St David of Picton Castle. Sadly I have never found any firm evidence of Herbert Johns parentage despite searching for many years. However, despite this, the name Rowland has rolled down the family , being the name of Jane carolines Uncle, son, great grandson, and great great grandson also" " dont know anything about hopkins BUT your post stood out as my ancestor (Herbert) John Philipps was a master @ Nodehill Grammar School Newport IOW in 1820s.. and I believe that he WAS welsh, and connected somehow to sir Thomas Philipps who was a patron of many schools, If you find any information on the school could you post it here for me?" "MR" PHILIPPS m.Jane ROWLAND late C18 Possibly Carmarthen or could be in any NAVY port? son HERBERT JOHN PHILIPPS B.circa 1795? son GRIFFITH MARTIN PHILIPPS B.circa 1797? son RICHARD PHILIPPS B.circa 1799? any information gratefully received" It was the griffith bit and the Martin bit that first interested me in your family, plus the naval connection and Portsea, following the family legend that an ancestor was a surgeon on a warship, possibly in the Battle of the Nile. I know that Lucretia Elisabeth Folkes has a famous family member named Martin Folkes, so I have been trying, (so far in vain) to find evidence to link up. I wondered if it was possible that Herbert Martin Phillips, born 1763 might have been the Mr Philipps who married Jane Rowland and become the father of Herbert john, richard, and Griffith Martin Phillips/philipps. So all rather tenuous really. I need a lot more information on the descendants of Griffith and Lucretia. Frank told me about the Lady Doctor, and I think I found a few small references to her on the web, but I dont know much. Keep in touch please, and best wishes to Frank!:-)
