    3. Ah-ha, this computes! This is probably near or includes the area known as Alsace which was conquered by Prussia, France, Germany, etc over many years. I am pretty sure Mary Anna Clark Bergfeld's mother was Mary Sophia Masqualet b abt 1822 in Alsace France, married (1st) 1847 John Wesley Phillips of Effingham Co, IL and (2nd) 1858 Joseph Clark of Effingham Co, IL.
