Hello, Are you related to William Edward Phillips(born in Wales,1769),Governor Of Penang,Malaysia from(1819-1824).Before that,he had being acting Penang Governor for nearly 6 times after absence of several Governors.He was born in Wales(1769).He married to Janet Bannerman,daughter of Col.John Alexander Bannerman,Governor of Penang from(1817-1819).William Edward Phillips resigned and went back to England and living at Dorset Square,Middlesex until 1850's. I also would like to ask you about his picture. Below here his descendants & ancestors info.:- Ancestors:- William Phillips, who was a member of Parliament for Borough Bridge and a prominent land owner of Brick House,Gwent,South Wales.He was granduncle to William Edward Phillips.General William Phillips was most distinguished Colonel of Artillery & Lieut-Governor of the Royal Castle of Windsor. He also built the Whiston Mansion in the next village. Whilst buidling Whitson Court, William Phillips, built the Brick House ready for his son's return to Britain from the American Colonies. However the son (also named William) never returned. The ship carrying him home was wrecked in a storm before reaching Britain and William was drowned.Brick House remained in the Phillips family until 1901, when it was sold to Sir William James Thomas, a coalmine owner from Cardiff and it became part of his vast estate. Gen. Sir Charles Phillips was uncle to William Edward Phillips. He has served with acknowledge merit in the West Indies,Malta,Egypt,the Greek Islands and in Italy. Descendants:- Charles Bannerman Phillips became a housemaster at Winchester until 1923. Sir Capt.Frederick Bannerman Phillips became well-known of Artillery in India.He was born in Titness Park,Windsor(9 Dec.1832). Arthur Phillips born in Bath,11 March 1826. Phoebe Phillips born on 15 Sept. 1834. Wife:- Janet BANNERMAN, m. 30 Jun 1818 at St. George's, Penang (then known as Prince of Wales Island), William Edward PHILLIPS (the acting governor of Penang. This marriage was the first performed in St. George's, which was the first Anglican church in Southeast Asia.
