To my knowledge, it has never been proven that Henry Phillips b 11 March 1801 in Georgia was the son of Whitmell Phillips, who was the son of Joel Phillips of Wilkes County GA. Since Henry and Lavinia Phillips appear to have named one of their sons Whitmell or Whitmill or Whitmore, it is possible that Henry's father was Whitmell, but this is not proof positive. You might be interested to know that a descendant of Joel Phillips of Wilkes County GA has joined the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. His results have not yet returned from the lab, but they should be back shortly. It will be very interesting to see if he matches anyone else in the project, which now has 111 participants. If you have an uncle or male cousin whose last name is Phillips, you could prove whether or not your Phillips line descends from Joel Phillips of Wilkes County GA by getting that person to join the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser
