Eugene A. "Gene" Phillips Eugene A. "Gene" Phillips, 73, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit, MO. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, MO. Visitation will be Saturday, September 7, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Odyssey Healthcare of Kansas City, 9229 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Gene was born October 1, 1928 in Holden, MO and lived most of his life in the Lee's Summit, MO area. He was a Jackson Co. Sheriff's Deputy from 1956 to 1990 and retired at the rank of Major. Gene later served three years as officer in charge of the Jackson Co. Drug Task Force. He was an avid bowler, golfer and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a good husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Linnie Phillips and two brothers, Joseph and Kenneth Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Nellie L. Phillips of the home; one son, Gary and wife, Linda of Greenwood, MO; two sisters, Alice Wilson of Leawood, KS and Jeanette Head of Lee's Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Reagan L. Hartline and husband, Brett of Blue Springs, MO, Ashley and Tyler Phillips of Ardmore, TN, Sonja and Alexandra Phillips of Greenwood, MO; one great-grandson, Nathan Eugene Hartline of Blue Springs, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
