    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nNABAIB/2940.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Nancy -- Today I was lucky and without trying 'tripped' over the proof that this man is not my ancestor --- I found the following on IGI records (note that Orisa is shown to have descended from Canadian parents to NY, although her name is now spelled Horace!). While the melodic name, Orisa did intrigue me, and I have learned that it is a Yoruba name for the Divine, and a female forename normally associated with Afro-American lineage, here Orisa is listed as of non-African parents.: John PHILIPPES Self M Male W 62 ENG Works For R.R.C. ENG ENG Horace PHILIPPES Wife M Female W 50 NY Keeping House CAN CAN Alla PHILIPPES Dau S Female W 15 OH At School ENG NY Eva PHILIPPES GDau S Female W 9 OH At School OH OH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Census Place Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio - Family History Library Film 1255007 - NA Film Number T9-1007 - Page Number 199C Thus Orisa was alive in 1880, and with her husband and two female children, Alla and Eva. Meanwhile, my own grandmother was about 9 years old, living with her own two parents also in Ohio or perhaps visiting Wales. Thus I am back at the start again - although this information may prove helpful to others. But where to now re my ancestors? -- One possible new lead I am exploring is that Wiliam's parents may be John and Rachel Phillips of Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. If so, William was born in 1814, and was several years older than on the UK Census of 1881. Another option is that he was born in Chipping Norton in 1820, parents yet unknown at this time. I am looking for data to resolve the dilemma. Kind regards, Mel.
