Most people do not do so out of malicious intent, they usually just have not been updated with the correct information. (When I first started researching my family, People had my Grandfather listed as a woman, who died 40 years prior to her, er...his real death!) If you find, however that someone is deliberately trying to malign your family, I would advise you to contact Ancestry.com.
