    1. A chink in the wall
    2. A few months ago several people from these lists did some searching on my Phillips (Dennison J) and Reynolds (Matilda) lines, with little success. All I knew was they had a son in 1865 in Astoria, New York. Thanks so much for your input. Maybe they were in hiding when the census taker came by! Today, I finally had some time to go through the microfilm at the Seattle NARA. After going thru the whole roll for Newtown and Astoria and some small communities next door with no success, I slowly went back thru looking just for their first names. Lo and behold, there was a family grouping: Chandsey (Chadsey or Chudsey, it's hard to tell), Dennison, Matilda, Wm T and Carrie! Living in the household was a Carrie Phillips, 3 years older than Dennison. The ages were close and, really, how many families could there be with that grouping of first names in the right area? I have no clue where the name Chandsey came from. Could the enumerator have been confused and the older Carrie's last name really by Chandsey? I'll ask my mom if the name means anything to her when she gets back from Russia, but I'm sure it won't. It's a bit crazy what happens during the census!!!
