NY, children b. Mich: Oscar 24, Juliette 18, Almira 15, William 11, Emily 9 In 1850, 1860, 1870, they live next door to Chester Webster also b. NY. No known connection at this time. 1870 still in Pontiac, family 169, Luke Phillips 62 b. NY, Patience 59 b. NY, Juliet Ransom 28, William Phillips 21, Emily 19. 1880 Pontiac township, Oakland Co, Michigan, family 78, Luke Phillips 72, b. NY, parents b. CT, wife Jane 68 b. England, with two 'servants' in house. Alfred, Oscar, and Charles are in the 1860 census Lapeer County. Alfred W Phillips apparently newly married to Elmira and resides Burlington tp, Lapeer County. By 1870 Alfred is married to Orpha and has 8 year old son Orrin (actually Lewis Orrin). Widowed Orpha is in the 1900 census in Pontiac and states she had no children, thus indicating she was likely a second wife of Alfred. Lewis O Phillips lived with a Beardslee family in 1880 in Independence tp, Oakland Co, MI. He married Minnie Smith and had two children, Alfred and Mattie M. Wife Minnie died 1894 in Indianfields tp, Tuscola County, Michigan at the home of her sister Emma and Charles Smith. The children went to Lapeer to live with relatives. Alfred stated in his marriage that he was born in Holt, NE. The 1900 census also says he was b. Mar 1885 in Nebraska. In 1900 Alfred is living with a cousin, Eddie Weston, in Mayfield tp, Lapeer County. It appears that Lewis O and Minnie Smith Phillips briefly moved to Holt, Nebraska, and returned to Michigan where Mattie was born. In 1910 Lewis O Phillips has remarried to widowed Phoebe Boardman and 18 year old daughter Mattie M is living with them in Kalamazoo city. Mattie M Phillips m. Lewis Hartman and is buried in Fenton, Genesee County, MI. Looking for any descendants of Alfred Phillips and Mattie Phillips Hartman and what became of Alfred and their father Lewis Orrin Phillips.
