    1. [PHILLIPS] Re: Abraham Phillips Wash Co IL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: PHILLIPS, WHITTENBERG, BURNS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nNABAIB/5294.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The Abraham Phillips of Washington Co. IL came from Blount County, Tennessee. Before that the family lived in Lancaster County, PA. Before that England. Abraham I came from England about 1745, fought in the American Revolution, married to a Polly. His name is on a marker in Blount County of Revolutionary soldiers and in the DAR book. His son, Abraham II married a Sarah Elizabeth Burns who was suppose to Penn Dutch. No one has been able to trace her family and Burns is a Scottish name so I think maybe it was spelled different. Anyway the two had problems due to language and after they moved to TN, Sarah returned home to PA for the birth of her first son John, my ancestor. Most of the rest of her kids born TN. My ancestor was the first of the family to come to Washington Co. IL in 1819. A lot of the family (siblings and parents) came later. John came with his wife's folks (Whittenbergs) to establish the first Methodist church in the area...Beaucoup. Sorry we couldn't lin! k up.
