She was born about 1885 probably in the area of New York City. Her mother was Annie Cummings, b. Co. Carlow Ireland, and her father was probably her mother's first husband James E. Henderson with her mother's second husband William J. Phillips being her step-father. (OR, She might have been the biological daughter of Wm Phillips.) In 1889, Bridget and her sister Ellen were removed from the care of their mother and placed in St. Ann's Home in Manhattan. It seems unlikely that the girls were returned to Annie, as both "Phillips" girls were inmates of the affiliated House of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill NY at the time of the 1900 census. Neither Bridget nor Ellen can be found in the 1910 census. In 1918 Ellen appeared in Providence RI to marry. This is where their other siblings were living with her mother's sister Bridget Dooris, and they had been there since their mother was institutionalized in 1895. However, Bridget and Ellen had never been found to live in Providence with their aunt. There is no trace of Bridget after the 1900 census. Emails to the "Good Shepherd" organization have not been answered. I suppose she might have become a nun, but I think it would have been mentioned in my Irish Catholic family. It is more likely that she married or died after leaving Good Shepherd. If anyone has any information that they think might be of help in finding Bridget, it would be most welcome. I would be happy to share information on the family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
