We have two websites and here are links to both of them: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/p/phillips/index.html http://www.familytreedna.com/public/PhillipsWorldwide/ So far we have 240 members who have gotten their DNA tested and, using DNA analysis, we have identified 31 separate, distinct and unrelated Phillips families. In addition, we have over 60 members who have not yet found any Phillips DNA matches. We post the pedigrees of our participants on our Patriarchs Page at the worldfamilies website and you can search those pedigrees to see if you recognize your Phillips family. If you have a male relative named Phillips, I highly recommend that you encourage him to join the project and get tested to see if your Phillips line matches anyone in the project. She was Emily Sullivan, and I was told she had a sister named Kate (Katherine?). Her sister Kate married a man named John Phillips, so as a last hope I'm trying to connect with someone from this line. Kate and John had children named Guy and Rozelle(and probably more). Emily married Marshall Rhodes in 1871 in Weakley Co. TN. If anyone is connected with this Sullivan/Phillips line, and can help me with the parents of Emily and Kate, please contact me. To Sandra Posey: Phillips Family Group 8 is my Phillips family and I suspect this line of Phillips emigrated from the London area to Virginia in the 1650s. I also suspect they belonged to the merchant taylor guild, which means they were merchants who were originally engaged in the wool trade. Merchant taylors frequently owned ships and were used to importing and exporting cloth and other items, so emigrating to the New World might not have seemed so overwhelming to them. They also may have supported King Charles and felt compelled to flee from England when Charles was disposed and executed by Oliver Cromwell in 1649. The yDNA of Phillips Family Group 8 shows that we belong to Haplogroup I1*, which is a rather unusual haplogroup for a family named Phillips. The sub-haplogroup I1* is quite rare. Haplogroup I is believed to be Scandinavian in origin, and perhaps Viking, which indicates that we might descend from Vikings who raided and plundered England during the Dark Ages, and then ended up making permanent settlements in England. It is estimated by geneticists that about 15% of the male population of the UK belongs to Haplogroup I or one of its subsets. My cousin Jen Phillips-Smith has our Phillips family tree posted on rootsweb under the file name vapsmith at this link: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=vapsmith&id=I1974. Both of us would love to correspond with you about your branch of our Phillips family tree.
