    1. Moses Phillips @ 1827, Canada

    3. This is a HUGE stab in the dark for a dead end of mine as I am at a loss as to what to do next. My great grandfather (Moses Phillips) was born in Canada about 1858. Until recently, I only knew he was French Canadian. In searching Massachusetts censuses, I found that he came here when he was young with his father (Moses Phillips @ 1827), mother (Elizabeth @ 1829) and siblings. All were born in Canada with the exception his mother who was born in New York somewhere. The family shows up in the Massachusetts 1870 and 1880 censuses and that is all. Moses, Jr. died in 1887 in MA. If anyone might have an idea of where I might start looking for this family in Canada, any pointers would most certainly be appreciated. One last item. According to family folklore, my grandfather, F C Phillips, was 6 generations from an Indian Chief. I have traced his mother's side and there is no hint of Native Americans on her side. If this is true, the Native American may lie with his paternal g g g grandparents.who likely were born in the 1720-1750 time frame. The only reason I mention this is that if it is true, it might hinder, or help, piecing things together. My assumption is that the Native American could come from either side of the border. Thanks again!!!! Jim
