Not exactly true.. When the trail of tears took place and native americans were taken into captive and forced to be educated, often the school nun (typically a nun and not a reg. school teacher) would list on the board common "english" surnames and the students were forced to choose one. So in all actuality, they could have "adopted" the name and still have been a full blood.
