    1. [PHILLIPS] Bennet/Bennett S. Phillips Any Connection
    2. CALVIN PHILLIPS
    3. I've had my ears perked up and paying special attention to the conversations the last couple of weeks regarding Bennet Phillips. Wondering if there is any connection with my GGFather Bennett S. Phillips? I'm pretty sure that I've read every post to the Phillips surname mailing list and the Phillips message board since I started them a lot of years ago, especially the mailing list. The given name of Bennet/Bennett is not very common, so I can't help but wonder. I have always assumed that my GGF got that name from his Mother or a Grandmother, but haven't had any luck in finding out. My GGF, Bennett S. Phillips (I never found out for sure what the S. stood for- perhaps Stanley) according to Linn county, Missouri 1850 and 1860 census, was born in KY around 1808. I next found a Bennett S. Phillips who married Francis Crouch on August 7, 1834 in Boone county, MO whom I always assumed was my GGF. I next found him (I know to be factual) marrying Elizabeth Johnson in Linn county on December 31, 1844. In his household, according to the 1850 & 60 census was a John Phillips, some 12 years of age in 1850 whom I assumed was the child of GGF and Francis, born approx 1838. In addition to that child, he and Elizabeth named their first son, John also, which leads me to believe that Bennett's father was probably a John Phillips, (one of the thousands)! I would appreciate any information or suggestions any of you might have. Thanks much. Calvin Phillips, Listowner/Admin P.S. Don't attach any significance to my name of "Calvin". My mother once told me she gave me that name because she didn't want me to have one of the Phillips names. I was two years old when she found that my Father's oldest brother (Greatgrandson of Bennett S.) was named John Calvin!
